While I chose to go down the business information system route at university and in my career so far, my creative side has always given me an interest in the multimedia side of things. Due to lack of natural talent when it comes to physical art - my inability to even draw stickmen correctly - this has manifested itself in design using software on a computer rather than a paintbrush on paper.
This was enhanced by my working at Brush Strokes Signs, where I learned a great deal about what looks good and what doesn't. As the business made the transition from vinyl cutting to thermal printing, sublimation printing and eventually to digital printing, I was given free reign to self teach myself to use applications such as photoshop and illustrator.
Combining those skills and attributes with my computing knowledge and abilities, I was able to use a content management system to build by Dad a professional website for his business that can be easily updated and has so far been successful in drawing in new customers. This was the first of a few that I've done since, including this one, as favours for friends and neighbours or as part of my work at Brush Strokes. A few of these are linked in my Website Directory.
I intend to continue developing these skills by teaching myself though filling my shelves at home with books or by building more sites for friends. Who knows, maybe one day I'll go down the web development road professionally.
